Thyropteridae

Disk-winged bats, part of the family Thyropteridae and genus Thyroptera, are found in Central and South America’s tropical rain forests. This small family includes five extant species and one fossil species. Named for suction cups on their thumbs and heels, these bats use them to cling to smooth surfaces, often roosting inside young coiled leaves. They have reduced thumbs within wing membranes, funnel-shaped ears, and brownish to black fur. Typically roosting in small groups or alone, they are insectivorous and adaptable to various environments.
