Ranidae
True frogs, part of the family Ranidae, are found worldwide, except in Antarctica. They inhabit North America, parts of South America, Europe, Africa (including Madagascar), and Asia, with the Australian wood frog being present in northern Australia. Characterized by smooth, moist skin, strong legs, and webbed feet, true frogs vary in size from small, like the wood frog, to large species. Most true frogs are aquatic or near water, laying eggs that develop into tadpoles. The family also includes arboreal species and some that thrive in brackish water.
