Pipidae

The Pipidae are a family of primitive, tongueless frogs, consisting of 41 species found in tropical South America (genus Pipa) and sub-Saharan Africa. Highly aquatic, pipid frogs have adaptations such as completely webbed feet, flattened bodies, and a lateral line system. They possess modified ears for underwater sound production and lack tongues or vocal cords, instead using bony rods in the larynx to produce sound. Their body length ranges from 4 to 19 cm.
