Mormoopidae
The family Mormoopidae includes mustached bats, ghost-faced bats, and naked-backed bats, found in the Americas from the Southwestern U.S. to Southeastern Brazil. They are characterized by a leaf-like projection on their lips and may appear hairless due to their wing membranes joining over their backs. These bats are brownish with short fur and roost in large colonies in caves and tunnels, producing significant guano for commercial mining. Living in the tropics, they do not hibernate and primarily feed on insects near bodies of water.
