Furipteridae

Furipteridae is a family of bats comprising two genera, which include single species: Amorphochilus schnablii, commonly known as the smoky bat, and Furipterus horrens, referred to as the thumbless bat. These bats inhabit regions in Central and South America and share a close relationship with species from the families Natalidae and Thyropteridae.

Distinctive features of Furipteridae bats include their reduced or functionless thumbs that are enclosed within their wing membranes, as well as their broad, funnel-shaped ears. They are insectivorous and can thrive in various environmental conditions. Their fur typically appears greyish, and they possess a small nose-leaf. Similar to many other bat species, they roost in caves, providing them shelter and safety.
