Tayside (Scottish Gaelic: Taobh Tatha) was one of nine regions for local government in Scotland from May 16, 1975, to March 31, 1996, named after the River Tay.
Established under the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973, Tayside included the counties of Angus, Dundee (a county of a city), Kinross-shire, and most of Perthshire. It was divided into three districts: Angus, Dundee, and Perth and Kinross.
Tayside was abolished in 1996 with the Local Government etc. (Scotland) Act 1994, which replaced regions and districts with unitary council areas, turning Tayside’s districts into separate council areas with some boundary adjustments around Dundee.
