Scotland is home to around 900 offshore islands, mainly grouped into Shetland, Orkney, and the Hebrides (Inner and Outer). There are also clusters in the Firth of Clyde, Firth of Forth, and Solway Firth, along with small islands in freshwater bodies like Loch Lomond and Loch Maree. The largest island, Lewis and Harris, covers 2,179 square kilometers, and over 200 islands are larger than 40 hectares. Among these, some, such as Staffa and the Flannan Isles, are well-known. A total of 94 Scottish islands are permanently inhabited, including 89 offshore islands.
