Rodents, from the Latin “rodere” meaning “to gnaw,” are mammals in the order Rodentia. They are characterized by a pair of continuously growing incisors in the upper and lower jaws. About 40% of all mammal species are rodents, found on all major land masses except Antarctica and some oceanic islands, where they have often been introduced by humans.
