Pheasant

Pheasants are birds from several genera within the family Phasianidae and the order Galliformes, native to Eurasia but found worldwide in introduced populations. The term “pheasant” is paraphyletic, including birds from the subfamilies Phasianinae and Pavoninae, and often relates more closely to smaller phasianids, grouse, and turkeys. These birds display strong sexual dimorphism; males are larger, more colorful, and lack involvement in raising the young. Their calls resemble a rusty sink being turned.

Pheasants primarily eat seeds, grains, roots, and berries, and during summer, they include insects and other small creatures in their diet. In the UK, they pose a threat to endangered native adder populations due to their introduced status.
