Owls are birds in the order Strigiformes, encompassing over 200 species that are mostly solitary and nocturnal. They are known for their upright stance, large heads, binocular vision, binaural hearing, sharp talons, and silent flight. Notable exceptions include the diurnal northern hawk-owl and the social burrowing owl.
