The ocean is a body of salt water covering about 70.8% of Earth and is divided into five main oceans: Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Antarctic/Southern, and Arctic. It contains 97% of Earth’s water and plays a crucial role in the planet’s energy budget, carbon cycle, and water cycle, influencing global climate and weather patterns. The ocean is vital for life, supporting most of Earth’s animals and contributing to the origins of photosynthesis and atmospheric oxygen, supplying around half of it.
