Moth

Moths are insects in the order Lepidoptera that are not butterflies. Previously classified as Heterocera, this classification is now outdated because it is paraphyletic in relation to butterflies (Rhopalocera). Moths make up the majority of this order, with around 160,000 species identified, many still undescribed. While most moth species are nocturnal, some are crepuscular or diurnal.
