Juncaceae, commonly known as the rush family, includes eight genera and 464 species of slow-growing, herbaceous monocotyledons. These plants may resemble grasses and sedges but often thrive in infertile soils and various moisture conditions. The largest and best-known genus is Juncus, primarily found in wetland habitats. Most species are perennials, though some, like Juncus bufonius, are annuals. Importantly, Juncaceae plants are not classified as bulrushes.
