Insects are hexapod invertebrates belonging to the class Insecta. They possess a chitinous exoskeleton and have a body divided into three parts: the head, thorax, and abdomen. Insects have three pairs of jointed legs, compound eyes, and a pair of antennae. They are the most diverse group of animals, with over a million described species, representing more than half of all animal species.
