The Greenfinch is a larger and stockier bird compared to other finches. Its chunky bill is well-suited for crushing its favorite foods. Males have green bodies with yellow streaks on their wing and tail feathers, while females also display yellow streaks but have more brown bodies.
Greenfinches inhabit a variety of environments, although they are absent from higher elevations, especially in Scotland. They have adapted remarkably well to urban settings, where they are often found in the highest concentrations. Estimates of their population size can vary significantly among different ornithological organizations, ranging from 0.7 to 1.7 million breeding pairs.
