Exmoor is a hilly moorland area in west Somerset and north Devon, South West England. Named after the River Exe, which originates two miles northwest of Simonsbath, Exmoor was once an ancient royal hunting forest. Officially surveyed between 1815 and 1818, it covers 18,810 acres (7,610 hectares).
Exmoor National Park includes the Brendon Hills, East Lyn Valley, and the Vale of Porlock, featuring 55 kilometers (34 miles) of Bristol Channel coast. The park spans 692.8 square kilometers (267.5 square miles), with 71% in Somerset and 29% in Devon.
