The first European Breeding Bird Atlas (EBBA1), published by the European Bird Census Council (EBCC) in 1997, marked a key moment in European ornithology. Since the 1980s, when the data for EBBA1 were collected, significant changes in landscapes and climate have occurred. In response, the EBCC launched a new atlas project EBBA2 in 2010 to provide updated information on bird distribution and abundance across Europe and to document changes since EBBA1 was first released.
