Europe is a continent located entirely in the Northern Hemisphere and mostly in the Eastern Hemisphere. It is bordered by the Arctic Ocean to the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the west, the Mediterranean Sea to the south, and Asia to the east. Europe is separated from Asia by the Ural Mountains, the Ural River, the Caspian Sea, the Greater Caucasus, the Black Sea, and the Bosporus Strait.
Covering approximately 10,186,000 square kilometers (3,933,000 square miles), Europe accounts for about 2% of Earth’s surface and 6.8% of its land area, making it the second-smallest continent.
