The edible frog (Pelophylax kl. esculentus) is a hybrid species of common European frog, also known as the common water frog. It is mainly found in Europe, from northern France to western Russia, and has been introduced in Spain, Norway, and the UK. These frogs are popular for their delicacy, frog legs, especially in France, Germany, and Italy. Females measure 5 to 9 cm, while males range from 6 to 11 cm. Common names include European dark-spotted frog and European black-spotted frog.
