Drey

A drey is the nest of a tree squirrel, flying squirrel, or ringtail possum, typically made of twigs, dry leaves, and grass, and built in the forks of tall trees. They are often more visible in autumn when leaves fall, revealing nests built in summer or early fall.

Ideal drey locations are in tree crotches about 9 to 13 meters (29 to 42 feet) up. Squirrels may also nest in attics or building walls, posing a fire hazard due to their habit of gnawing on electric cables. Additionally, they can inhabit permanent tree dens in hollow trunks or branches.
