Chats are small insectivorous birds from the Old World, previously classified as thrushes (Turdidae) but now placed in the Old World flycatcher family (Muscicapidae) due to genetic analysis. They are mainly robust, ground-feeding flycatchers found in Europe and Asia, with most northern species being strong migrants. Chats primarily belong to the subfamily Saxicolinae.
