Asia is the largest continent in the world, covering over 44 million square kilometers and home to approximately 4.7 billion people, or about 60% of the global population.
It shares the landmass of Eurasia with Europe and is bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the east, the Indian Ocean to the south, and the Arctic Ocean to the north. The boundary between Asia and Europe is more of a cultural construct than a clear physical separation, typically defined as east of the Suez Canal and the Turkish Straits, Ural Mountains, and Caspian Sea.
The term “Asia” originates from a European view, representing the vast region of Eurasia minus Europe. This continent is marked by a variety of independent cultures rather than a single, unified culture, with cultural differences varying along a spectrum.
