Africa

Africa is the world’s second-largest and second-most-populous continent, covering about 30.3 million square kilometers (11.7 million square miles), which is 20% of Earth’s land area. With nearly 1.4 billion people as of 2021, it represents approximately 18% of the global population. Africa has the youngest population among all continents, with a median age of 19.7 in 2012.

Despite being the least wealthy inhabited continent per capita, recent economic growth and a large youthful population make Africa an important market globally. The continent is abundant in natural resources, including diamonds, gold, copper, and petroleum, as well as agricultural products like cocoa beans and tropical fruits.
